Outsized cargo no problems for Germany
Earlier this month the Loadmaster team at our Frankfurt office were called on to assist with an outsized load for one of our customers. Outsize cargo is nothing new for the team and so they put their heads together and came up a solution; Air Dispatch’s Marco Karpinski takes up the story…
The dimensions of the shipment including wooden beams between and under the pipes were 1160x230x225cm and the weight of the shipment was approximately 16.000Kgs. We decided we would have to build the load at the aircraft during the turnround. We positioned two high loaders back to back in front of the nose of the aircraft and put two 20ft pallets on them. There was no gap between the pallets. Then we put additional wooden beams on the pallets. Thereafter we loaded the pipes on the pallets by crane and secured them on the pallets. As the shipment was now 239cm high (pallet, freight and beams) I decided to put the straps to attach the shipment to the aircraft structure over the pipes before it was loaded. After this we loaded the shipment through the nose of the aircraft. The whole operation needed three hours.
Some photos of the operation are shown below
